He is a recognized expert in Constitutional Law and Labor Law, and teaches at the Faculty of Law at the Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil (UCSG). Its more than three decades of university teaching have enabled him to contribute to the formation of several generations of prestigious Ecuadorian professionals. He is Professor of Graduate Studies in the Masters of Procedural Law, Constitutional Law and Business Law of the UCSG and Director of the Specialization on Legal Systems of Protection to Human Rights.He has been a guest speaker at several national and international conferences and seminars of Law and taught at the Universities of La Coruna and Castilla La Mancha, Spain .

In college life obtained for every year the first prize for academic excellence. Three times “Premio Universidad Católica” given to the best student of the institution between all faculties and school. It was the first graduate in the Faculty to get the prize “Doctor Héctor Romero Menéndez”. It was declared by the Bar “Abogado más destacado del año 2008”. Decoration “Al Mérito Científico” given by the Federación de Abogados del Ecuador, year 2011. Received the decoration “Al Mérito Institucional por parte del Consejo Nacional de Educación Superior CONESUP”.

He is Doctor of Law by Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil, has several titles and degrees of fourth level among them: Magister of Contitutional Law by the Universidad de Guayaquil; Magister of Strategic Thoughts and Planning in Higher Education , given by Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil; Constitutional Procedures Specialist for Universidad de Guayaquil. He is a candidate por a PhD at the Universidad de la Coruña, Spain.

Has published several books “Inconstitucionalidad por Omisión”, edited by the Universidad Católica and the Corporación de Estudios y Publicaciones and “La Oralidad en el Juicio Laboral”, together with the Doctor Jaime Velasco Dávila y others, edited by the Corporación de Estudios y Publicaciones.

In the public sector he has practice in two occasions at the Diputación al Congreso Nacional del Ecuador, representing Guayas. He was President of the Comisión de lo Laboral y Social and Vice-president of the Congreso Nacional del Ecuador in the period of 1985 -1986.

Since 2003 to 2011 was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences at the Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil and Vicepresident of the Asociación Ecuatoriana de Facultades de Jurisprudencia del Ecuador.
Currently, Dr. Ivan Castro Patiño complemented his teaching with the free practice of law .
